On February 1st we had a fun day. We made some 100th Day glasses, practiced skip counting (yeah I know what we are tackling on Monday!) ...
We also had a project due too. I love Read! Write! Think! I found this idea, a few years ago, and have used it every other year since. The children have to write three clues about the 100 objects in their bottle. We have been working on adjectives and also studying about the properties of Matter...check out these clues...
After lunch the 100th Day of fun continued..... with Matter Science Centers....
...Did I mention only 80 days left?....I love my kids this year, but maybe I just need a little break...or a big break...either way CURRENTLY in February..here's my deal:
I have decided that I need a few months to get the Common Core ideas out of my head and into the fire! So much going on, I still need to present some information to my colleagues, then I need to really go through all my "stuff" and decide what stays and what goes according to the CCSS!
(Most of it is file cabinet stuff!-I did a clean sweep of the closet at the end of school last year)
Recently my neighbor at school called me a laminator freak...I laminate almost everything, but in truth I use stuff a lot, math mats, anchor charts, task cards, games...the list goes on, a lot of little lamination...tho ONLY reason I don't have a laminator is truthfully I don't have the $$ to keep it full! That seems to be the issue with the ink! I need more moola to keep up with all my" Teachers Pay Teachers" trolling!
I need that extra hour to blog, lesson plan, cook, sleep...you know the drill....
I think my pet peeves are self explanatory...can't stand arrogance for no reason, ignorance is not bliss, it's annoying and please please please, do NOT ignore me...it really ticks me off, especially when I am giving you directions/advice that YOU wanted to know! (rant over!)
On a more positive note...I can't wait for our 3 day break in February...more time with my Sweet Man!
You're speaking my language, Natalie!! 80 days left for me too!! WOOOHOOOO!! Ignorance... I can't stand it! I HATE being ignored! I wish I had an endless supply of ink too. I would be dangerous!! =) My sis and I are your newest followers thanks to Farley's currently!!

Couldn't ignore your comment...so I decided I'm heading over to y'alls blog {wink wink}
DeleteYour 100 day glasses are super cute too!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Natalie! I found you through Currently, and am now a follower! I have been teaching 18 years, and this is my 1st year in 2nd Grade. I always like finding teachers who have been at it as long as I have.
ReplyDeleteI love having things laminated too! I have a small personal one, but I have to make sure I keep laminating pockets around. It's usually easier to get small pieces laminated on the large laminator.
I think we all could use an extra hour in the day!

Lori,
DeleteI heart {puffy} heart 2nd grade! Are you doing the Common Core in your district yet? We start next year. It will be like Whole Language revisited but with a HUGE consentration of TEXT based teaching...going to be so much fun not being tied down to a basal....ah the pendulum swings back!
I just bought a personal laminator from Target for $28! I totally agree with you on the ink. My cartridge is NEVER full! I cannot stop blog stalking for TPT products!
ReplyDeleteHappy to be your newest follower!

Amen to the laminator and ink. So essential :) Our 100th day was Thursday, and our kids loved the bottle activity. The guessing was hilarious. Firsties give the best clues :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck purging your files.

I found your blog through Farley's Currently, and I am your newest follower! I also want a laminator. At our school, our media specialist is the only one who can laminate, and I know that she gets so tired of getting my weekly items I want laminated. I feel like she will put a bill in my box soon! :)
ReplyDeleteHa! We got "THE e-mail" about going through too much laminate..I swear it was all about me!...I feel you pain!
DeleteNatalie~ Love the picture of you in the 100 days glasses! Priceless. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so very very jealous that you have 80 days left.
I've got too many to count still!

Those 100 day glasses are adorable! And I completely agree on the extra hour in each day, although I would want it at night to have some more sleep. I'm SO glad I don't have to do CCSS. It sounds like a TON of work switching over!
ReplyDeleteDon't Let the Teacher Stay Up Late
It's not a lot of work, IF you work smart not hard! (I keep repeating that)
DeleteI know that 40/50 states are switching...you might have to, soon! (you never know)Good Luck!

Do you have a Costco? They have a personal laminator that comes with 100 sheets for $20. It was $5 off when I was there last week, too. ;)
ReplyDeleteHappy to find you!

DeleteWe have a BJ's around here...maybe I should check them out when they send me a trial membership card...hmmmm that is a good idea, Thanks!
I am sorry for calling you a laminator freak...although I didn't quite say it like that:). I'm no better!! I need the scoop on the pet peeves!
ReplyDeleteI was only playing...it is true though! Maybe if we have an hour to kill I'll tell you all about my pet peeves! Oi!
DeleteI wish we had 80 days left of school...mostly just because I long for the warmer weather the end of the school year brings! I'm addicted to laminating as well!!! LOVE IT:-D
